Back to school

We are now into the final week of the 6 week holidays and everywhere you look when shopping 'Back to School' signs can be seen. In actual fact these signs have been up since the first day of the holidays in most supermarkets.

At a recent gathering I heard friends talking about how they couldn't wait to send their kids back to school so that normal routines could resume, and ,likewise, the Husband can't wait for Titch and I to go back either.  Now I may be biased ,being a teacher, and I totally understand how having 6 weeks off can affect parents - it is a long time to try and keep them amused, but I love the holidays and , although I am also looking forward to getting back into normal routines, I will miss the holidays and these are my reasons why.

1. Time with the family. As school teacher I work extra hard during term time, and ,although we have family day once a week, the rest of the time my job comes first. Teaching isn't just 9-3. The holidays for me are payback for the extra hours I work each week and luckily I get to spend all this time with my family making lots of memories.

2. Lazy Mornings. Our normal morning routine starts at 6am every morning. The routine is the same: shower, get dressed, sort breakfast, make sure lunches are ready and then off we go.  Even at weekends it very rare that we can be lazy as on 'family day' we enjoy going out ,so we make the most of it by getting up and out early. In the holidays, we can all have mornings where we don't get dressed straight away and we can just relax watching 'Homes under the Hammer.'

3. Eating lunch. This may seem a little strange, but in the holidays I actually get to eat lunch sitting down. Normally when at work, I eat lunch as I walk down the corridor, or as I mark, or on some occasions skip it altogether as I am so busy. In the holidays, we make a point of eating lunch together whether this be at home around the table, out for a picnic or at a restaurant.

4. Me time. Me time is rarely available during term time. I am either working, taking care of Titch or spending time as a family, so in the holidays it is great just to get that little bit of time for me.  It doesn't have to be long ,but half an hour of alone time every now and again has been great.

5. Making memories.  I love the holidays especially because we get to make memories. Lots of my own memories are from the holidays and days out with my mum and dad. We try to visit places we haven't been before so that Titch also has fond memories of the holidays too.

6. Not knowing the day or time. Daily life revolves around what day it is and what time. I love that in the holidays I often forget what day it is and we don't live by the time.  So what if we don't eat lunch till 2pm we can tea later than normal. And although we do stick to some routines for Titch, most of the the time we are more flexible in the holidays.  The only problem now is getting back into the routines - especially getting up early.

Now I do have to count myself lucky that I can get to spend this quality time with my family. We have had a great Summer and only 8 weeks of work until we get another week of fun.

  3. Ah, as much as I love 'em, I'm looking forward to mine going back to school. As much as I hate doing the school run, I do like getting back to a bit of routine. Thanks for linking up - hope to see you again soon! #TwinklyTuesday
